Reunification Documentary Screening and Discussion

June 7, 2019 @ 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM

Director Alvin Tsang comes to the Chicago Cultural Center to screen his film Reunification (2015), followed by a discussion and Q&A.
This film is being presented in partnership with DCASE, Facets, Chinese American Museum of Chicago, and OCA Greater Chicago.
Filmed over a 17-year period, this award-winning film gives an insider view of the contemporary Asian-American immigrant experience, family psychology, and personal filmmaking. Director Alvin Tsang reflects on his family’s migration from Hong Kong to Los Angeles in the early 1980s – fraught with betrayal from his parents’ divorce, economic strife, and communication meltdown between parents and children.
This poetic exploration moves moodily across different channels and modes, bending into labor histories and Hong Kong’s colonial trajectories. Tsang turns the camera on his own family, cautiously prodding for answers, but fully acknowledging that the only closure he can get will be from deciding for himself how to move on.
The screening and discussion of Reunification will take place at the Claudia Cassidy Theater on the 2nd floor of the Chicago Cultural Center.
Doors open at 6:00 PM and the event starts at 6:30 PM.
Attendance is free and open to the public.
