Town Hall on Sustaining Support for People with Disabilities
June 5, 2015 @ 3:00 PM - 5:00 PMFree
Greetings partners and supporters,
Hope all is well. With the transition in state government and resulting budget cuts, ADOPT’s continuation is uncertain.
With your support and partnership, we have made a significant impact in expanding opportunities for Asians, immigrants and refugees with disabilities to connect to employment and vocational rehabilitation (VR) services. Our milestones include:
Establishing DRS contracts for 6 multicultural organizations to provide community-level VR services, 4 of which are new to disability and VR. The MVRPs are; Asian Human Services, Chinese American Service League, Chines Mutual Aid Association, El Valor, Heartland Human Care Services and Midwest Asian Health Association;
Publishing a toolkit manual for DHS/DRS that highlights culturally sensitive outreach strategies and best-practices when working with multicultural communities;
Increasing the number of multicultural individuals with disabilities accessing VR services and finding employment;
Raising awareness around disability and promoting VR services and employment-related resources to over 150 multicultural/disability providers in Chicago.
As we look to the future, ADOPT seeks your help in finding ways to sustain this important work and continue supporting people with disabilities within our own communities access disability and employment services.
We invite you to support and join us for our town hall meeting to hear testimonials from individuals sharing their experiences with VR and the MVRPs. An open dialogue will follow discussing strategies on how we, as a network of multicultural providers and advocates, can preserve these employment-related services moving forward.
